Mindset & Confidence Coaching

Because horse riding is about so much more then just physical skills.

Most riders will, at some point, come up against mental blocks.

Fear. Nerves. Doubt. Loss of motivation. Feeling stuck or burnt out.
Or that quiet sense that something’s off, but you can’t quite put your finger on it.

You might be:

  • Struggling with riding anxiety or competition nerves

  • Feeling disconnected from your horse or your goals

  • Missing the joy and confidence you used to have

  • Wanting something more from your horse life, but unsure what that is

You don’t have to figure it out on your own.

You’ve got a coach for your riding. Why not your mindset too?

Why I’m Offering This

You might already know me as a horse behaviourist or equestrian coach. As someone who helps riders understand their horses and improve their training.

But over the years, I’ve seen a common thread:
It’s not always about the horse.
Even when the training is solid, riders often struggle with fear, self-doubt, or feeling like they’ve lost their way.

That’s why I trained as a certified Master Transformational Coach (ICF PCC). So I could support riders not just with what’s happening in the arena, but with everything happening in their minds too.

Mindset coaching isn’t a side offer, it’s become a core part of how I help people show up more fully in their riding and their lives.

"I didn’t think I’d ever feel safe riding again, but Susan met me where I was and helped me build trust in myself, step by step."
— Julia

So What is Mindset & Confidence Coaching?

  • It helps you deal with the mental side of riding. Thing like fear, frustration, overwhelm, or just feeling stuck.

  • You’ll get clear on what’s really going on and what’s getting in your way.

  • Together, we’ll come up with a plan that actually works for you — not just another to-do list.

  • You’ll build practical tools to handle nerves, stay focused, and trust yourself more.

  • You’ll feel more confident in the saddle and more steady in yourself.

  • You’ll have someone in your corner. Someone who keeps you accountable, challenges your mindset when needed, and supports your progress.

  • It’s not therapy, and it’s not advice. BUT it is structured, goal-focused support that gets real results.

What We Might Work On

Navigating transitions. New horses, new job, new directions.

Building resilience and self-trust, even when things don’t go to plan

"I’ve done years of counselling, but Susan’s mindset coaching gave me a breakthrough I hadn’t found anywhere else. Her questions helped me shift things I couldn’t before."

— Allanah

"Susan helped me realise that fear isn’t weakness, it’s information. That perspective changed how I ride, and how I live."

FAQs

Do I need to have a “big problem” to work with you?

Not at all. Many riders come to coaching simply feeling stuck, unmotivated, or unsure what’s next. You don’t need a crisis, just a sense that something needs to shift.

How do I access the coaching?

Coaching sessions are held online via video calls, so you can join from anywhere in the world. For local clients in Wellington, in-person sessions are available by request.

Is it like therapy?

No. Therapy helps heal past wounds and mental health issues. Coaching focuses on your present mindset and actions to help you move forward with confidence and clarity.

Is this coaching only for competitive riders?

Absolutely not. This is for any rider who wants to feel calmer, more confident, and more connected. Regardless of discipline or experience level.

Will you tell me what to do?

No. My role is to guide and support you in discovering your own answers. You get tools and accountability, but you decide the path that fits you best.

What makes you qualified to do this?

I’m an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and Master Transformational Coach. With years as a horse behaviourist and equestrian coach, I understand both the mental and practical challenges riders face.
